It truly is a sad time with the recent news of Studio Liverpool getting shut down. I was personally heartbroken and badly. I felt like my dog got run over by a car.
Countless hours of my youth were spent playing all the games in the wipEout series, as well as, Destruction Derby, Blast Radius, and Armour-Geddon. The developers and designers truly produced superior products and when partnered with Designers Republic proved to be on the cutting edge of innovation.
I remember running home with tremendous excitement with the first Playstation game I have ever purchased. I frantically ripped the plastic packaging off and gazed so wide-eyed at the beginning sequence for wipEout. The imagery, animation, and music immersed me into an environment that was completely unfamiliar and unknowingly changed my life forever. That moment in my childhood was extremely enlightening and played a very large role at inspiring me to become the artist and animator I am now and aspire to be.
Studio Liverpool will certainly be missed, but the inspiration they have planted into a generation will live on forever. Thank you Studio Liverpool - Psygnosis for all of your efforts and for changing my life.
Now-a-days I try my hardest to not get political or make any statements about things, but I've had a long time theory that almost all of the problems in modern day society deeply stem from two things: greed and a complete lack of integrity. From the official statement by SONY “As part of SCE Worldwide Studios, we do regular reviews to ensure that the resources we have can create and produce high quality, innovative and commercially viable projects in an increasingly competitive market place" it is clear that greed and a lack of integrity were the two main factors in shutting the doors.
I truly wish everyone well at Studio Liverpool and hope they find a way to keep the fires of their ideas and innovation burning.
